There are two types of permits that may be required if you are planning to build on your property.
Development Permit - Most development in the R.M. requires a development permit. The application will be reviewed to ensure the suitability of the development. We look at the entire use of the site including setback distances.
Building Permit - The R.M. is planning on making it mandatory for all new farm house construction to obtain a building permit. This is consistent with surrounding municipality practices. Building permits ensure construction meets certain standards. We contract our building inspection service out to MuniCode Services Ltd. They review plans and provide on-site inspections of new construction. Please contact our office at 345-2303 for more information.
Setback Regulations - Trees, Fences, etc.
Obstructions (trees, fences, buildings, snow piles, bales, etc.) must be placed back 150 feet from the centre-line of any municipal road or 300 feet from the intersection of two municipal roads. These setback distances are in place to reduce snow blockage problems on our roads in the winter and to ensure machinery and equipment can travel over municipal roads. |
